The auto-entrepreneur card is the document that embodies the status created by law no. 22-23 of December 18, 2022. It is issued by the National Agency for Auto-Entrepreneurs (ANAE) and allows you to carry out a service activity or micro-import activity in a declared, formal way, with simplified taxation. This guide summarizes what you need to know before applying for it, and what it involves once obtained.
Who the status is for
The status targets an individual who works alone, in their own name, in an activity listed in the ANAE nomenclature. The key points to remember:
- One person, one activity. The auto-entrepreneur works under their own name and declares a main field of activity.
- A capped revenue. The annual cap is 5,000,000 DZD for service activities and 10,000,000 DZD for micro-import. Beyond that, the status is no longer suitable.
- Flat-rate taxation. The auto-entrepreneur is subject to the final flat tax (IFU) at a rate of 0.5% of revenue. They do not charge VAT.
If you plan to hire staff, to permanently exceed the cap, or to carry out a regulated activity outside the nomenclature, you should look into the standard trade register instead.
The eight ANAE fields of activity
The ANAE nomenclature groups authorized activities into eight broad fields. It is this field, chosen at registration, that determines your revenue cap.
| Code | Field | Annual cap |
|---|---|---|
| 010000 | Consulting, expertise and training | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 020000 | Digital services and related activities | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 030000 | Personal services | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 040000 | Home-based services | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 050000 | Leisure and recreation services | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 060000 | Business services | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 070000 | Cultural, communication and audiovisual services | 5,000,000 DZD |
| 080000 | Micro-import | 10,000,000 DZD |
Each field then breaks down into specific activities (web development, graphic design, photography, training, home repair, etc.). The full and up-to-date list is published by the ANAE on its official platform: that is the authoritative source.
How to get the card
The application is made online, on the ANAE platform. The process is as follows:
- Create an account on the agency's platform with a valid email address and phone number.
- Choose your activity in the nomenclature. Take the time to select the label closest to what you actually do: it will appear on your card and on your documents.
- Submit the required documents. Depending on the activity, the agency asks for an ID document, proof of address, a photo and, for certain activities, proof of qualification (diploma, training certificate, or experience certificate).
- Wait for approval. Once the file is accepted, the card is issued with a unique number: this is the number you will report on your quotes and invoices.
The required documents and timelines can change from year to year. Before submitting an application, check the current list on the ANAE platform rather than on a third-party site.
What the card changes for invoicing
Once you have the card, you can issue business documents in your own name. Three practical consequences:
- Your card number appears on every invoice, next to your name. It is the identifier that ties the document to your status.
- You do not charge VAT. Your documents carry a statement indicating that VAT is not applicable under the auto-entrepreneur regime (law no. 22-23). The invoiced total is therefore the net amount.
- You track your revenue against your field's cap, since it is what determines whether you keep the status.
The trade register is not required for an auto-entrepreneur. The tax identification number (NIF) may be requested by some business clients: include it on your documents if you have one, but its absence never blocks issuing an invoice.
After getting the card: good habits
- Number your invoices without gaps or duplicates, in chronological order. An annual numbering scheme like INV-2026-0001 is simple and readable.
- Keep every document you issue (quotes, invoices, payment records) for your tax return and in case of an audit.
- Track your collected revenue throughout the year: it is the basis for the IFU and for checking the cap.
MyHissab automates these three points: continuous numbering, PDF archiving, and a cap gauge updated with every payment received.
Frequently asked questions
Can you hold the card alongside salaried employment? The law sets up the status for an individual working as a main or secondary activity; the conditions for combining them depend on your situation and your employment contract. Check with the ANAE and your employer.
Does the card have a validity period? The card is issued for a fixed period and is renewed through the ANAE. Plan ahead for renewal so you don't invoice with an expired card.
Can I change my field of activity? The change is requested through the ANAE. If you move from a service field to micro-import, your cap changes as well.
